CONFERENCE VENUES

The venue for the Conference will be the unique LIFE Science Centre in conjunction with the adjacent Jurys Inn, which are just 200 yards from Newcastle Central Station. The two Plenary Sessions will be held in the Scotswood Suite at the Life Science Centre, which has fascinating interactive displays on the origins of life itself. The parallel Workshop Sessions will be held in the adjacent recently opened Jurys Inn, the largest hotel in Newcastle with nine dedicated hi-tech meeting rooms and 274 en-suite bedrooms ­ available at special discounted rates for registered Conference Delegates only.

SOCIAL EVENTS

On the Tuesday evening prior to the Conference, an optional Welcome Reception on Gateshead Quays will be hosted by Gateshead Council. Delegates will have access to the Visitor Centre and to BALTIC, the new International Centre for Contemporary Art, with a unique view of the riverside and the city. After the drinks Reception delegates can walk across the iconic Gateshead Millennium Bridge and choose from a wide variety of restaurants, bars and clubs along the vibrant riverside.

On the Wednesday evening The Lord Mayor of Newcastle will host a Reception prior to the optional Gala Dinner in the impressive baronial style Banqueting Hall at Newcastle Civic Centre. After the dinner delegates will be able to explore the wide variety of city centre pubs, bars and nightlife, which are only a short walk from our hotels.

GETTING TO Newcastle Gateshead

It’s easier than you think to get to Newcastle Gateshead. In addition, when you arrive, it’s quick and simple to get around. It is a compact yet well-connected city. There are fast direct services by air, rail and road from all parts of the UK and by air and sea from many major cities in Europe. Once in the city, there are excellent METRO underground services, frequent buses and many taxis available, whilst it is quite easy to walk around the partly pedestrianised city centre.

AIR SERVICES

Newcastle International Airport is conveniently located about 6 miles northwest of the city, with excellent public transport connections (bus and Metro) direct to the heart of the city centre in about 20 minutes. Scheduled flights from the following key international hub airports provide a fast route direct to Newcastle Gateshead: London Heathrow (6 flights per day) London Gatwick (4) London Stansted (4), Amsterdam (5) Brussels (4) Dublin (4) Paris (4).
Other direct scheduled flights include Aberdeen, Alicante, Barcelona, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf, Isle of man, Jersey, Malaga, Nice, Palma, Prague, Southampton, Stavanger.

RAIL SERVICES

This station is served by frequent high-speed services by GNER between London, Edinburgh and Glasgow and by Virgin Trains from Birmingham, Bristol, South Coast, South Wales and the South West. There are also Trans-Pennine Express Services from Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and York plus the METRO services across Tyne & Wear and numerous local rail services across the North East Region. FERRY SERVICES

ROAD LINKS

The A1(M) from London to Edinburgh has a direct link to the city just 2 miles away along the A184. To the west, the M62 cross-Pennine motorway is only 90 miles from Newcastle whilst the A69 provides a good link to the M6 and Carlisle and to the M74 for Glasgow. (See table of distances below). There is space for over 400 cars at NCP Times Square Car Park, adjoining Jurys Inn.
