PLACES TO VISIT ON YOUR OWN: Cardiff Castle Cardiff Castle is one of Wales's leading tourist attractions. Situated in the very heart of the capital, alongside city centre shopping and the magnificent Bute Park, the Castle's enchanting fairytale towers conceal an elaborate and splendid interior. Contained within its mighty walls is a history spanning nearly 2,000 years, dating from the coming of the Romans in the first century AD. After the Norman Conquest, the Castle's Keep was built and a number of Medieval fortifications and dwellings followed. Cardiff Castle is open 09.30-16.00 every day during the Conference. Admission to the Castle Grounds plus a Full Guided Tour of the apartments costs £6.95 for Adults and £4.30 for children. Admission to the Grounds only is cheaper. Advance booking is not required. For information see www.cardiffcastle.com Cardiff Bay Waterfront Cardiff Bay is the City’s main leisure district with top restaurants, retail outlets and galleries together with the iconic Wales Millennium Centre Concert Hall, the new National Assembly of Wales Senate Building and St David’s Hotel & Spa. Widely regarded as one of the UK’s most successful regeneration projects, the redevelopment of Cardiff Bay has involved the revitalization of 1,100 hectares of decaying and derelict land in the City’s former dockland area with new residential, retail, commercial and leisure developments. Cardiff Bay can be reached by Buses 8, 9 & 35 from Greyfriars Road or 1 & 7 from Central Bus Station. Millennium Stadium Tour The official home of the Welsh Rugby Union – and the temporary home of most major UK Football Championships - invites you to explore the magnificent features that make it one of the most impressive multi-purpose all-weather sporting venues in the world. You can see the pitch first hand, experience the Stadium from the perspective of the players, visit the VIP area and sit in the Royal Box. You can discover how the Millennium Stadium’s enormous retractable roof operates and how the removable pitch provides flexibility for other events. The Stadium is open to the public from 10.00 until 17.00 weekdays except on match days. Admission is £5.50 for adults and £3.00 for children. Tours operate from the Stadium Shop, Gate 3, Westgate Street. Note: The Autumn International Rugby Match between Wales and Australia will be played at this Stadium on Saturday 4th November, which may affect tours during the Conference.
