Welcome Reception & Networking Buffet Civic Reception & Gala Awards Dinner Welcome
Reception & Networking Buffet www.museumwales.ac.uk/en/cardiff A splendid Welcome Reception & Buffet will be held in the National Museum following the opening Plenary Session. The whole evening is arranged to facilitate networking with a Welsh accompaniment. Dress Code: Business attire (plus an outdoor coat if walking). Delegates, partners and guests will have an exclusive private view of the largest collection of impressionist paintings in Europe outside Paris, including original works by Cezanne, Monet, Millet, Renoir, Degas and Van Gogh. The Evolution of Wales exhibition covers 4,600 million years through a whistle stop tour using robotics and audio-visual effects. Host: Professor David Halton, Vice-Chancellor, University of Glamorgan Principal Speaker: Rt Hon Rhodri Morgan AM, First Minister, Welsh Assembly Government. Rhodri Morgan is the Welsh Assembly Member for Cardiff West. A fluent Welsh speaker he is a graduate of Oxford and Harvard Universities and lists health, the environment, European Affairs and regional development among his political interests. He has been leader of the Labour Party in Wales since February 2000 and he was appointed to the Privy Council in July 2000.

Treorchy Welsh Male Voice Choir with a “global” repertoire. Drinks: Welcome drinks in the Galleries are limited to white wine and water in order to safeguard the works of art. A wider range of complimentary wines, beer and soft drinks will be available on the Ground Floor. Buffet: A multi-cultural international stand-up fork buffet will be served in the Grand Hall. Reception & Gala Awards Dinner A Civic Reception hosted by the Lord Mayor of Cardiff followed by the Gala Awards Dinner will be held in the historic grandeur of the City Hall Assembly Room. The Marble Hall on the first floor of the City Hall is lined by columns of Sienna marble and decorated with ornate stained glass windows and many items from the City’s extensive art collection. The magnificent Assembly Room has a richly decorated ceiling that provides a delightful canopy for our Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony. The Awards Ceremony will be streamlined to recognise the authors of best papers in each Track plus a small number of special awards. This will allow more time for networking and entertainment. Drinks: A Civic Welcome Drink will be served in the main Entrance Hall and a limited range of complimentary wines, beers and soft drinks will be served in the Marble Hall on the first floor. During and after the Dinner a cash bar will be available in the Ferrier Foyer at the end of the Assembly Hall Dinner: A traditional four-course Welsh Dinner will be served. Vegetarian and other special diets may be arranged if pre-booked with the Conference Registration Department. A choice of red or white wine will be provided on table and any bottles that are empty will be replaced as long as stocks last! Awards Ceremony: The Best Paper Awards will be presented in stages between courses. ISBE 2007 Glasgow: At the end of the Awards Ceremony a short video on the attractions of Scotland will be presented by the ISBE 2007 Conference Committee chaired by Prof Bill Keogh, of Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. Night-life: After the Gala Awards Dinner you may adjourn to the nearby Hilton Hotel and continue networking in their large bars, taking advantage of our 20% Discount Voucher. (Only residents can order drinks after 23.30.) Alternatively Cardiff City Centre offers a number of options for those looking to unwind quietly over a pint, or in style with a gourmet meal or while throwing shapes on the dance floor. Its increasing reputation as a young city has seen Cardiff’s nightlife come on in leaps and bounds in the last few years. The Bay Area development in particular has many restaurants, bars and specialist clubs, coupled with a famously friendly community. |
